Wool and Wonder: Intro to Felting 101 is a gentle, welcoming introduction to the art of needle felting, designed for curious beginners who want to explore creativity in a relaxed, supportive space. This 90-minute online class invites you to slow down, work with your hands, and discover how simple fibers can transform into charming, three-dimensional art. In this class, we’ll cover the essentials you need to begin needle felting with confidence while creating your very own custom-designed felted creature. We’ll start with a simple sketch on paper—no drawing experience required—using imagination and play to shape your idea. From there, you’ll learn how to build a three-dimensional form using core wool, gradually sculpting and refining your creature with needle felting techniques. We’ll explore the different types of felting needles, how wool behaves as it’s worked, and how to layer and add colored wool to bring personality, texture, and life to your creation. Through gentle repetition and mindful making, you’ll see how loose fibers transform into a sturdy, expressive felted figure that’s uniquely yours. This is a fun, low-pressure session focused on learning and exploration rather than perfection. You’re encouraged to follow your curiosity, ask questions, and enjoy the process. Whether you’re drawn to felting as a creative hobby, a mindful practice, or a new artistic outlet, this class offers a soft place to begin. To make participation easy, all students will receive a materials kit in the mail prior to class. Your kit includes felting needles, wool, and a foam block—everything you need to follow along during the session without sourcing supplies on your own. Safety Disclaimer: Needle felting uses sharp barbed needles. This class includes safety guidance on proper handling, hand positioning, and mindful pacing. Participants must be comfortable working with sharp tools. This class is intended for adults or supervised teens and is not recommended for young children.
